Road trip 2011

Road Trip Part 7

The last installment of the journey YAY! Again I got up way too early partly because my alarm went off on mountain time rather than pacific. Ben was amazing at how quickly he managed to shut my alarm off from his bed even though it was right beside my head as I slept on the floor. I know! The guest on the floor, though at least I didn't have to stay in a hotel. I joked with him that I'd just where a tight dress and scam a bed from his room mate. Turns I ended up sleeping on his room mate's air mattress lol.

Road Trip Part 6 Oregon Caves and California

The furthest south that I planned to go was to Davis, California, to visit my online friend, Ben, in person. Since he had his own apartment and some time off before semester started he was available to show me around. But first...

Inside Oregon Caves
I left Ashland to visit the Oregon Caves bright and early in the morning. As with all caves we got the standard warnings about White Nose Syndrome, a condition affecting bats all over North America. While there is no evidence that humans spread the disease they were still careful to inform us to not bring stuff into the cave that had been in other caves east of the Rockies.

Road Trip Part 5 Mt St. Helen's and Crater Lake

When we got back to Vancouver, I ended up having to do Body Talk for my sister's friend and a client of mine whom I met in Edmonton. The next day I was up and at 'em early, because I was heading to the US for a week. Border crossing took FOREVER. I have NO idea why Americans inconvenience Canadian shoppers. We're here to help!
Originally the thought was to drive down hwy 101, the scenic ocean view one, but from the map it all looked in land to me, so I just went to the I 5. There was a lot of traffic on the road, so when I got to Olympia I was so SICK of sitting in the car I walked around the first boring street I saw, not realizing I could have gone to the state capitol grounds or to Mt.

Road Trip Part 4 Vancouver Island

The ferry trip to Vancouver Island was a bit expensive but definitely worth it. Here's the  view from the boat. The day started out rainy, but cleared for us for the rest of the trip. Since we just missed the previous ferry, Rima and I had enough time to have something to eat at the port.

This portion of the trip was one I'd wanted to take for YEARS. I wanted to do some SPAleunking, combination of going to the spa and caving. My friend warned me that Horne Lakes Caves were lame and I should skip it, but I thought I should check it out at least so Rima and I did.

Road Trip Part 3 Vancouver

My sister actually lives in Vancouver, so she drove us there. We stopped off in suburbian Vancouver to fill up and to pick up a dresser for her since I was driving my Elantra touring, think Toyota Matrix, though I really should post a pic of my trusty car :) Since Rima had to work during the day, I explored on my own. I ended up visiting theVancouver Art Galleryand joining her for lunch. The Gallery as usual was amazing, expensive, but amazing lol. They had a Surrealist exhibition complete with movies!

Vineyard ~ Road Trip Part 2

So, looking at my photos, I have a lot of the different vineyards we went to so I suppose they warrant their own post. To start the day my sister wanted to book a tour, but at $60/person +HST with no lunch included, we decided to drive ourselves. Since I don't like wine or more accurately wine doesn't like me the other girls could drink and I could drive home if necessary. All of our tastings were complementary, because at every vineyard someone ended up buying something. The bags for the wines were nice, because they had a map of all the vineyards.

Road Trip! Part 1

For the last few weeks I've been on vacation doing what I would classify stupid things if anyone else were to tell me her travel plans. In just under 3 weeks I drove roughly 6000 km, well my sister drove for about 1500 of those. I left Edmonton Thursday night for Calgary (300 km). I had a pretty bad day, so I ended up leaving late, which effectively canceled my plans to cave in Rat's Nest in Canmore with my friend, Andrew. I don't feel too bad, because he canceled last time! The club will be going in November as part of the AGM anyway, so I figure we can go then.
